Barely writing for Five for Friday despite my busy schedule. I think this will be my last note saying we are again around Sengkang Sports Complex. This Wednesday there was a confirmed case of someone getting CONVID-19 just across the street! What could be worst than that. This week is data center week. Performed testing and sorts. Last year Oracle started charging if you have a JRE installed, as an alternative better install Amazon Correto open jdk instead.
Simple neighborhood feel family weekend...
Walking in the park in parks, walking by the riverside, playing the nearby park, eating in mcdonalds. Peaceful uneventful weekend, despite the ongoing COVID-19 issues. Staying in the community and doing a frequent excerise make us feel safe.
Damn what could be worst than having an infected person just across the street...
Just this week, someone from out street was confirmed to have COVID-19. I hope everyone is ok and safe. We do our best to distance ourselves with other people and sure that we are healthy enough to do our daily work.
Ohh work.. work... work... I think with the cold and environment not place to seat, it is a tough place to work into for days...
Another week in the data center as we go to our final strech of cutover next weekend. I do curse the complexity of external systems. Normally this shouldn't be the case.
Finally finished the first novel...
Completed reading this short novel Douluo Dalu. The plot is ok and satisfying. If not for the future novels, the ending of this first book is a deal breaker. The growth of the character starting from his past life into the next really build up the main character details. The tranceding to God level is expected but the last few chapters seems hastely done.
Oracle do sucks, Switching to Amazon Correto...
Oracle started charging on the use of JRE8 onwards, planning to pay? Hell No! Check out this reddit discussion Confused about java and the new license.
If your app is simple enough why not build it natively? If it is complex why build it in React which will pose maintenance concern in the future...
Using abstractions to reduce re-work is fine if done right. Developing a project is different from making a prototype, a project will eventually move to maintenance and this is what you need to plan out.

Captain Ri! this is the name I strangely see in my facebook wall post. This week the popular Crash Landing on you really out shined CONVID-19 in the Philippines. If you want to know more of Captain Ri just check out this Asianwiki. News of mask shortages is lingering, the CONVID-19 is gradually becoming an international pandemic. Life goes on but we must become more vigilant and travel to places less.
Ok this Korean show really hits a lot of viewers and my wife's favorite...
A netflix original show Crash Landing on You drives the asian market on Storm. It is a romantic comedy of a North and South Korean mix, check out its wiki pages for the details.
Not really an isolation level of lifestyle, more or less reduced movement...
We keep ourselves on some degree of isolation still due to the virus. Sooner or later this stoic lifestyle we be adapted by us, it is actually a good thing. keeping life basic and simple is also good.
A flu that is spreading like wildfire internationally...
It is slowing starting to become a Global pandemic. Wikipedia Coronavirus Outbreak 2019-2020. Basically this this is a long haul fight.
Nothing special, I just remembered it was a leap year after writing this...
This year is a leap year, it was nothing special. A few interesting topics popped up so I thought it is worth writing it here. check out Wikipedia on how it is calculated and how amazing the calibration works.
Interesting video to know why leap years are important in our gregorian calendar...

I don't think anything is interesting this week since there is more of work than self-reflection. Ok because of the Wuhan thing, everyone is divided into two groups, where one group is adviced to work from home and the other is to go to office. Work from home will be done alternately every week between the two teams. I fixed the electricity eating light bulb. We went to sengkang sport centre last weekend for a walk. Going to data center is the painful part within this month.
Work from home but nooo I went to the data center...
I was happy that we can work from home. Unfortunately no one is also capable to setup, check, verify, security cleared to do work in the data center. In the end the happy week ended up with working in the data center. Data center is not the best working condition to go to. Someone needs to be cleared 5-6 times and would need an escort to enter the last room and to even do a pee. It take 10-20 minutes just to enter the server room with all the clearance. There is no camera phone inside the server room, there are no seats, one needs to stand up and use the console racks, if you have a laptop you need to directly connect to the secured ports. Either way I can't complain on the work, it is just part of the role.
House keeping and maintenance duties...
Cleaning, changing bulbs and personal fixtures is part of maintaining a flat. It is too expensive to let someone else do it, but it is not so difficult for me to do the maintenance myself.
Weekends around Sengkang...
This weekends generally invovled around Sengkang Sport Centre and Sengkang Riverside park. Basically we walk from our place straight to sport complex. Joyce will take the bike and Jace will be in the stroller. There is a nearby playground where Joyce can ride a swing and play with the sand. Singapore have a lot of playground in every flat but it is rare to find swing and sand playing grounds.
Normally I don't watch any Amazon Prime shows, May be Picard is an exception...
Star Trek. Unlike Netflix, Amazon Prime Video has sub-standard shows for my taste. Their focused niche doesn't touch mine. Hopefully after acquiring a Star Trek fanchise they can do more scifi shows, I also hope they have a lot of standup comedy show. I'm a Star Trek New Generation fan, it was my first series in the franchies.
Let us have a different perspective on why Einstein's E=MC2is interpreted differently...

Wuhan virus is now officially called COVID 19. I got a heart at attack or breathing problem this week. Future health plans. I wasn't able to prepare for valentines and wasn't able to meet this years expectations. How Toy's R Us collapsed in th US.
The COVID-19 scare is real, the paranoia and seclusion...
The covid-19 scare is really people move less, restaurant are still vacant, we don't book flights due to uncertainty and it is the time that we don't spend too much.
I thought that I am going to die...
It is monday February 10. Seriously the 2 hours of being breathless really took a toll from me. Around 4am in the morning I woke up with breathing difficulties. My heart pumps like hell and barely could breath. I am drowning. I drank a medicine to unclog my lungs, it didnt work. In the morning I almost called the ambulance. I thought it is an asthma attack. After 1 hour calming down I woke up my wife telling my condition but I felt it was a wrong move, I got more tensed when she started to panic. I don't blame my wife, she showed care but I was just got more agitented. Being calm is not her strong point. Whent to ER queue via Grab at 6am. Stayed there till 8am before going to Buangkok clinic. I got my ECG and blood taken. I got 4 days of MC. It was a tiring day. I got good results after going to the clinic which is good, well not all my uric acid is very high indicating a possible gout issue.
Needless to say I need to eat better diet and lose weight...
I might not get the frequent excerse that I need but at least I can cut off or improve my daily food in take. My food life style should improve by eating less and cutting off most of my dinner food.
During to my 4 day medical leave and heart attack I have poorly prepared anything for valentines...
This year's valentines is unceremonious and quite terrible. Not much to say but sometimes we just don't meet other people's expectations and we just need to do our best to fill our gaps. Social media truly affects peoples minds and expectations.
In fact.. someday we will go bankrupt. If you look at large companies, their lifespans tend to be 30-plus years, not a hundred-plus years. We have to try and delay that day for as long as possible. Well said by Jeff Bezos...
My favorite toy shop closed down due to management being too greedy and not focusing on their core product. Toy's R Us still survives at least in Singapore and Philippines despite the US counterpart bailing off the game.

Five for Friday this week would sum up to my photo of the Novena church, me dropping of mailgun, the first death of wuhan virus outside of china would be in Philippines (it just sums up on how poor public hospital care is in the country), learning more about mandelbrot set and re-reading Douluo Dalu web fiction wuxia.
Youtube is a pool of bits of introductory information, this week I watched a few topic about Application of matrixes, Why Insulin should be cheap, or ahem monopolized, Graphene introductory video and how Weight of Super conductors.
Don't get me wrong mailgun is still good, I am just not willing to shell out a dollar per month for my minicule usage...
I have been using free mailgun for sometime, hoping my demand will increase over time. The new maingun pricing just don't cut out for me sepcially I only use it as a dev, test or prospective email service.
Wooh government raised the DORSCON to orange and the company triggered BCP measures...
Singapore has this Disease Outbreak Response System Condition (DORSCON) framework, which is really good and is a well planned approach in dealing with the virus. The updates of this outbreak can be refered to the MOH website. The company I am working with also triggered a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) to ensure support and business will continue dispite of this calamity. The only difference I felt for this BCP is alternatively everyone is working from home in alternate weeks. This is really good since it allows me to be with my family but at the same time my daughter always disturb me during work!
Last time the Douluo Dalu translation is not finished thus cutting off my readings, now everything is done I am continuing to finish the wuxia web novel...
I have mentioned about reading this web novel several times but this time I can finally finish the fully translated book. Check the novel in douluo dalu updates for the full details and references.
While take a short break off work, I dropped by the view of the renovated novena church...
Being in Singapore for quite a while I have visited the old church one or twice before it was renovated. After the church was renovated, the transformation is noticable. One weekend after Jace' Occupational Theraphy we dropped by the nearest mall at the same time when to church. We were surprise how grandNovena Church Singapore is.
Poor public health care in the Philippines in the midst of an outbreak...
A poorly manage country with decent doctors but with poor healthcare system. The previous sentence sum up the country of 200 million, where most of the skilled and talented tried to migrate else where if given a chance.
This concept is amazing, it is something I only learned this month. Learning new things about the universe really opens ones' mind...
Learning more about the Madelbrot set wikipedia might be your friend but oftehn they are not the best guide out there. I have added a video clip from one of my favorite youtube channel.
