CocoonJS and Construct 2 Integration Spin Off

Friday of December 19, 2014

Just a background CocoonJS is a fast integration tool to build Android and IOS applications using html5 or through its own version of native canvas. As of Construct 2 it is a 2D game engine which promise a zero coding environment for developing games. Zero coding for game development is a great treat, but no coding doesn't mean no basic programming logic. I believe what makes Construct 2 great is how easy it is to make simple games, there are also tons of sample games and a good community behind it.

Cocoonjs and Construct 2 used to be tightly integrated but unfortunately due to the difference in priorities Construct 2 needed to drop the support. I think the decision was good since the pressure of the updated plugin should fall under Ludei instead of Scirra. This also means that updates from Construct 2 will be more focused in improving the game features rather than providing support for third party applications.

Hackatron Asia 2014

Monday of December 08, 2014

Hackatron asia is a technical hack event where you can check their web site on this link. The main challenges for this event are the integration of paypal and/or yotaphone in the application. During the start of the event I plan to use google cardboard with leap motion controller, but ended up in using google cardboard instead. Our team qualified for the top 16 out of the 40+ teams that pitched during the event, which is kinda not what we were expecting since we didn't put much effort into this event. Our team didn't stay overnight and most of the time we just talked and socialized. Our team was actually playing foo's ball in the sidelines when our team was announced as a qualifier. They also call our team wrongly preventing us on initially recognizing it (btw way our team name was 'VR', and the announcer called us as 'UR'). Overall the event was great and I were able to add a few connections related to gaming and start-ups.

72-Hour Game Jam : FGL November Contest

Sunday of November 30, 2014

It was a quick weekend, with a few stuffs to work-on for the FGL monthly gamejam. The theme of this month's FGL is "Don't Shoot!", so basically we don't have an existing game that actually matches this theme. We tried making a simple memory game don't shoot me prototype. It has a retro look and is quite fun to play with, to check our game visit Friendly Fire - FGL November Game Jam html5 version.

Updated 08/12/2014: This demo game was awarded second place for the November 2014 game jam.

Parallel Development: Coding and Artwork

Monday of November 24, 2014

Personally completing the technical part of the game, like physics, game play and core features before adding any artwork feels a little bit off. Personally it encourage me to do better specially if I can already see the final form . Although it somehow minimized the distraction of playing the game rather than doing the actual work. Below is our current process flow in developing our casual indie games. Parallel Development: Coding and Artwork

Upnewz: Alpha Build v0.0.1

Monday of November 24, 2014

Over the weekend on a hackathon event, we had this idea of a website that publish feeds of a specific niche. We have thought of a site that shares positive news to people, and ended up conceptualizing an app named UpNewz. There were different idea's about the site and I need to modify some of its features based on how I envision the application. Upnewz is a test project which aims to collate positive news from various news agencies and feeds. It is a website with a continuous flow of news feeds, and aim to be a self building and populating website. The site engine aim to be versatile, regardless of the target niche. It starts as a small scaled application specializing to its target need. It will initially run under php/mysql configuration. To check out the development of the website visit UpNewz.

Update 05-18-2016: Project decommissioned.
