The light novel has more details than the anime, it might be a bit boring at times. The LN experience opens a new perspective a new view of the Overlord series. The anime help on some of the visualization queues but the experience is completely different in the LN. If reading is not your thing you can check out the audio book reading of overlord in youtube.
