Hong Kong Vacation

Friday of June 08, 2018

This is our first time in Hong Kong with kids. We are a bit skeptic about logistics and itinerary since managing Jace and Joyce would push the challenge. Bringing a light stroller and a Lascal was a life saver. After this trip, we realized its not that bad after all.

Day 1: Departure from Singapore Changi to Hongkong Terminal. Quick bite outside the airport was a bad idea since food there is relatively expensive. Traveling with kids and having a lot of luggage, we took a cab around HK$250 to Disneyland Hotel. We sort our things, checked the area around the hotel and ate our packed dinner.

Day 2: Woke up early and have our usual morning routine. After taking some coffee and small bites, we head down and took a family photo in the garden. Ones the shuttle is ready, we hop in and stopped in Disneyland around 10 am. From this walk onwards till the end of the day pictures, selfies and family pictures were fired every minute.

After arriving at the entrance, the queue was manageable but 10 am is really hot in Disneyland. We rush first to the Fantasy Land section since it is the kid's rides took Mad Hatter and Winnie the Pooh. At 11 am we have lunch, our usual lunch with kids normally takes 2 hours. Bought some small souvenirs, watch the theater and parades. Pictures with Winnie the Pooh garden. We seldom took rides since most of it Joyce and Jace are not qualified. We had an early dinner at 4 and had a painful 1-hour queue with Micky and Minnie till 6 pm. We used our coupons to purchased our meals, I bought 3 adult coupons which are more than enough for all of us. Went back to the hotel and settle the kids.

Day 3: This day we went to Ngong Ping to check Tian Tian Tan Buddha. It was our first time taking the Cable car and it was great. The scenery was really good and it was hot! We were expecting the place to be cold since it is in the mountain range, but it was badly hot. I a few tips for people visiting the place avoid eating local restaurant in that place, just grab a subway instead. The restaurants are pretty damn expensive for its quality. We watched the action fighting in the theater and the life of Buddha. Overall it wasn't a bad experience. We went down around 4 to avoid the crowd, grab some groceries in the nearby mall before going back to the hotel.

Day 4: This is our second-day visit to Disneyland, we came in more prepared. We had another set of pictures with Disney friends, re-watched the parade went to the rides we missed on the first day, viewed the midnight light show and came home tired.

Day 5: Packing and transferring to Dorsett hotel which is in Kowloon area. Initially, we planned to take a cab but we end up taking the free shuttle and airport train. A tip if you are staying in Dorsett, take the train until Kowloon station and go to the bus parking exit. There is a free shuttle going to Dorsett from there every hour. We had a mistake of dropping in Stadium station and then riding a cab, the price was ok but having a free shuttle is better.

In general, Hong Kong rooms are small. The hotel in Dorsett wasn't a surprise for us but somehow we were able to manage. The price and package are reasonable. Our package includes a free use of lounge with free wine and snack around 4 - 6 pm, it has a massage chair and some small amenities. It cost us around S$100 per night with breakfast and lounge usage. We took our lunch in the nearby stalls outside Dorsett. For our dinner, we settle for the free flow wine and snack (chicken wings) in the lounge.

Day 6: Victoria's peak, Tram, Bubba Gump and Sky Terrace. The morning was a bit of a disaster since I misread the terms and conditions of the Klook tram ride. In the end, we were still able to settle everything and took the tram and arrived at Victoria's peak via the old tram. It was a fun ride, especially for the kids. The ride was like less than 15 minutes before it reached the peak. Right after arriving we had our lunch at Bubba Gump, had a glimpse of the area. Apparently, it was raining and has a signal 1 call. We had a misty view of the Sky Terrace, everything is still ok and we were able to take some clear skies. We weren't able to explore much because of the kid's safety but still, it is a satisfying trip. We went down before 5 pm to avoid the tram traffic and the MTR crowd.

Day 7: Sky 100, International Commerce Centre, Kowloon. It was bad weather. We woke up late. Had a late breakfast. Got late with the shuttle due to kids. Taking the shuttle to Kowloon station and the ICC, we walked to the mall through the Sky 100. It was a great view of the skyline and is really worth going to. The experience is different compared to Victoria's peak. Due to the bad weather, we cut our trip and missed our city tram booking. It is a bit expected since we travel to Hongkong in June month. We went back to the hotel early and had a dinner in a Vietnamese restaurant.

Day 8: Ocean Park, Signal 3. It was still raining we arrive in Ocean Park through MTR and reached there around 10 am. We watched some events and took some mascot pictures. A lot of rides were closed but we don't care since my kids aren't riding them anyway. The lunch we had in the park was terrible, Disneyland food was much better. We had a mini-cable car ride, which is a bit scary since there was a Signal 3 typhoon call midway our journey. Unfortunately, the dolphin show was canceled and we can just settle for some minor pictures in the ground. We took the tram ride going back which is much safer and has a submarine theme experience. It is a bit disappointing because of the typhoon but anyway we were still able to manage.

Day 9: Free and Easy. This day was a free day to relax and just go shopping. We just dropped by one mall which is Langham place and tried the nearby Jollibee Hongkong bought some shoes and suveniurs. The day wasn't much but were relaxing and enjoyable.

Day 10: Packing back to Singapore. We took the shuttle to Kowloon MTR, surrendered our octopus card and bought an express ticket for HK150 for two. It was a smooth journey going back.
